Culturally sensitive therapy for adults, families, and adolescents
Singapore and online, in English and Norwegian
Hi! I'm Julianne, a Norwegian-Chinese counsellor in Singapore. Based at Alliance Counselling, I provide individual therapy for adults and teens, as well as family therapy and parent support. I believe in working in a culturally sensitive and neuroaffirming way, and will tailor our sessions to your unique strengths, values, life experiences and goals.
Born and raised in Norway within a Chinese family and having worked across Asia, Europe, and the USA, I bring a unique cultural awareness to my work. I specialize in helping people navigate relationship difficulties and work through emotional issues, such as feeling easily annoyed or worried, or struggling with emotional numbness, loneliness or unresolved hurt.
I see clients in-person in Singapore and also offer online therapy internationally. Language-wise, I conduct therapy in English and Norwegian, and can also accommodate Danish and Swedish speakers.

Men's mental health: While I work with clients of all genders, many of my clients are men who sometimes find that emotions confuse, frustrate or overwhelm them. Together, we work on understanding your emotions, their function, and how to express what you feel with more clarity and confidence. We find actionable steps to increase self-awareness and emotional flexibility, and help you build deeper, more meaningful connections.
Interpersonal, mood and identity issues: I specialise in supporting people who want to develop a better relationship with others and their own selves. Common issues include ongoing family tension, feeling unfilled at work or in your relationship, or being perplexed by your own emotions. Many clients also find it helpful to work together as they move through major life transitions (such as relocation, loss of a family member, job loss, becoming/deciding not to become a parent).
I am experienced working with anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, OCD, grief, perfectionism, and intense or complex emotions. I have particular expertise in supporting clients who are navigating cultural transitions and cross-cultural relationships.
When working with teens and children, my approach is rooted in respect, creativity, warmth, and humor. I recognise the unique challenges of adolescence, and emphasise mutual respect and understanding. Having worked as a school counsellor at an international school in Hong Kong, I appreciate the pressures faced by students and parents.
I am experienced with supporting teens who experience anxiety, depression or overwhelming emotions, perfectionism and self-criticism, peer issues, school issues or family tension. Many of my teen clients are quirky, creative or deep thinkers. They may show high potential in certain areas (e.g. cognitive ability, language, empathy, out-of-the-box thinking), but have challenges in other areas (for example, low-self-worth, difficulties with peers, or issues with motivation or focus).
Sometimes, the most meaningful changes in a family don't happen through individual therapy but rather, through sessions where different family members join and learn to relate on a deeper level. In family therapy, I work with a range of clients, including parents and their teen/adult children, or adult siblings. Together, we can work to reduce conflict, increase mutual understanding, and build trust, closeness and emotional connection.
"The stress I faced in my career started inflicting damage on my marriage and estranged me from my children. [...] Thanks to Julianne, I was able to work through the pain. She has a way with words, and is super patient helping me refocus my thought process. She understands the challenges a man can face in society. [...] I am truly grateful to have made the decision to seek counselling, and to have met her."
